CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte-based self-storage operator Morningstar Properties and Chicago-based Harrison Street Real Estate Capital purchased a marina on St. Simons Island, Ga., in August, expanding their marina portfolio to six.
The Boat House at Golden Isles features 25 wet slips and dry stack storage for 200 more boats.
The partners formed a joint venture in March to develop and acquire self-storage and marina assets starting with the $13 million purchase of three properties in the Charlotte, Fayetteville and Carrboro/Chapel Hill markets.
The Morningstar venture has since added six self-storage facilities and six marinas in the Carolinas and Georgia. Among them is the 25-acre Kings Point Marina on Lake Norman, billed as the largest marina in North Carolina. Morningstar also owns owns and operates the Reserve Harbor Yacht Club in Pawleys Island, S.C. and Bahia Bleu in Savannah, Ga., and the Peninsula Yacht Club, also on Lake Norman.
