Morningstar Mini-Storage founded by Stephen Benson with a focus in the Carolinas.

2001

Morningstar Mini-Storage becomes the 10th largest self storage operator in the United States.

2004

Morningstar acquires its first marina, the Peninsula Yacht Club, on Lake Norman in Charlotte, NC.

2005

Morningstar acquires its first intracoastal marina, Reserve Harbor Yacht Club, in South Carolina.

2005

Morningstar acquires its second intracoastal marina, Bahia Bleu, in Thunderbolt, Georgia.

2006

Morningstar acquires its second Lake Norman marina, Skipper’s Landing.

2007

Morningstar acquires Kings Point, the company’s third marina on Lake Norman.

2007

Morningstar acquires Gwynn’s Island on the Chesapeake Bay in Virginia.

2007

With multiple acquisition, Morningstar re-establishes Golden Isles on the Intracoastal waterway in St. Simons Island, Georgia. The company also acquires Eaton Ferry on Lake Gaston in North Carolina.

2009

Morningstar acquires Mayport, its first redevelopment marina in Jacksonville, Florida.

Morningstar got its start in the storage business in 1981, when our in-house construction and development team began building premier storage facilities in the region, establishing a legacy of experience, excellence and longevity. In 2004, we introduced a Marina Division to expand our breadth and to leverage our operating expertise in niche real estate markets. Since that time, we have continued to grow and expand with marina facilities located in the mid-Atlantic and Southeast. Today, Morningstar owns and operates nine marinas in the the mid-Atlantic and Southeast in addition to 51 self-storage facilities totaling more than 3 million square feet.
